Luísa Margarida Martins is a Full Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department (DEQ) of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. Since 2023, she has served as Vice President for Scientific Affairs of DEQ and coordinates the PhD in Chemistry. She is a leading researcher at the Centro de Química Estrutural and Institute of Molecular Sciences of IST, where she heads the MARCLab research group focused on molecular architectures, reactivity, and catalysis. Luísa’s research is centred on sustainable catalytic processes using green chemistry principles to synthesize large-scale commodities, carbon dioxide fixation, and biomass valorisation. She specializes in designing homogeneous and single-site heterogeneous catalysts, particularly metal C-scorpionates, alongside molecular electrochemistry and electrocatalysis. A highly cited researcher, she has been recognized in the top 2% by Stanford University since 2019. Luísa has received numerous distinctions, including the Scientific Prize of University of Lisbon / CGD Bank in 2022. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), a member of the American Chemical Society, and has held leadership roles, including former President of the Portuguese Electrochemical Society. She is currently Vice President of the Portuguese Chemical Society, a founding member of IRACE – International Research Association on Circular Economy, and an Associate Editor for Coordination Chemistry Reviews, Elsevier.
