Ole (M.Sc., Chem.Eng., Danish Technical University) has since 2015 been co-founder and co-director of Danish Waste Solutions. For more than 40 years, he has led and participated in numerous Danish, Nordic and international R&D projects and provided consultancy services for industry, the waste management sector and local, national and EU authorities regarding characterisation, classification, testing, treatment, recovery and disposal of waste, in particular MSWI residues and B&D waste. He has been involved in the development of the EU Landfill Directive and provided technical support for other EU directives and national legislation on waste, and he has participated in the development, interpretation and standardisation of the leaching tests for waste and construction products that are now part of European legislation on waste. His work includes development of risk-based leaching criteria for the beneficial application and disposal of waste and residues. With the exception of one, he has participated in all Sardinia Symposia from 1989 to 2019. As of 2021, he has contributed to eight text books and is the author/co-author of 23 scientific articles and more than 100 international conference papers on various aspects of waste management. In 2000 he received ISCOWA’s Gold Award for his contributions to the development of the technical basis for common rules on landfilling in Europe. He has been and is active in European and global standardisation work (CEN/TC 292, CEN/TC 444, CEN/TC 351, and ISO/TC 190).
