Dr. Panagiotis Basinas received his degree in Chemical Engineering and his PhD from the Chemical
Engineering Department, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece. Before being appointed
as a senior scientist in Czech Republic, he worked at the Chemical Process Engineering Lab., AUTh, as
well as in the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) and undertook scientific campaigns
at the University of British Columbia and CANMET Energy Technology Centre in Canada. His research
interests focus on renewable energy and bioenergy, biomass and waste conversion to biofuels,
thermochemical and biochemical processes and gas separation technologies. Currently, in his team
at the Institute of Environmental Technology, research is oriented towards the areas of bioprocess
and biotechnology with particular focus on biofuels production, optimization and mathematical
simulation of anaerobic processes, integration of digestion and pyrolysis for resource management,
biogas purification and development of sustainable solutions for organic waste streams. During his
career, he acquired awards for research excellence and participated and managed National (Greek)
and EU scientific projects. He has more than 45 published articles in international high-impact
scientific journals, book chapters and conference proceedings.
