Mait Kriipsalu, Civil.Eng. on land reclamation, received his Ph.D. on bioremediation of oily sludge and sediments from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, in 2006. In 1994 he started his academic career at Estonian University of Life Sciences, where he is working since then; currently as a Professor of Water Protection and Waste Management, Institute of Forestry and Engineering, Chair of Rural Building and Water Management.
His main research interests are methane oxidation in landfill biocovers for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, landfill mining, water and wastewater treatment, waste management towards a circular economy; and particularly biotreatment. He is performing certification of compost under end-of-waste regulation.
He is a member of an Estonian Recycling Cluster, belongs to steering committee of European Enhanced Landfill Mining Consortium, and for a decade, he was a board member and vice chairman of European Compost Network.
