Christian Zurbruegg

Christian Zurbrügg is member of the Eawag directorate (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology) and senior researcher on solid waste management in developing countries at the Department of Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development (Sandec). He has a MSc. degree in Geology from the University of Berne, Switzerland and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Brescia, Italy.
His research interests lie in the interdisciplinary approach of upgrading infrastructure and services in urban areas of low and middle income countries – with a special focus on solid waste, sanitation and water.
As director of the department Sandec he obtained the IWA Development Solutions Award for Science in recognition of outstanding innovation or contribution to science which has led to demonstrable uptake, impact or influence at national, regional or international levels in low and middle income countries.
