Sidy Ba is an Associate Professor at the National School of Engineers Abderhamane Baba Touré
(ENI-ABT) in Bamako, Mali, and the Founding Director of the Laboratory of Chemical &
Environmental Engineering (LG-ChE) within ENI-ABT, where he initiated a Master’s program in
environmental engineering. He earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of
Sherbrooke (Quebec, Canada) in 2014 and an M.Sc. in environmental engineering from Montana
State University-Bozeman (MT, USA). He obtained his B.Sc. in civil/hydraulic engineering at ENI-
ABT and a post-graduate diploma in hydraulics at the International Institute of Water and Energy
(2iE) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. His teaching and research experience spans universities in the
USA, Canada, Sultanate of Oman, Senegal, and Mali.
His research focuses on pollution and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), such as using enzymes and
constructed wetlands, to abate antibiotics, antimicrobial resistance, and other micropollutants in
wastewater. Additionally, his research addresses Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene issues in developing
countries. He is a Fellow-Chairman of the African Academy of Sciences ARISE grantees and a
(Co)PI of several other research grants. As of 2023, he has (co)authored about 20 peer-reviewed
publications, including papers, reports, a book, and a patent. Sidy is a registered professional
engineer in Quebec, Canada, with consulting experience for international organizations like UNDP,
UNIDO, GFA Consulting Group, and Join For Water.
He joined the International Waste Working Group in 2023, expanding his research to Solid Waste
Management.
