Dr Weisheng Lu, is an associate professor in the Department of Real Estate and Construction, Faculty of Architecture at University of Hong Kong (HKU). He holds a BSc of Computer Science and an MSc of Construction Economics and Management, both awarded by Chongqing University, China. He was awarded his PhD by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU) in 2006. He has worked as a research fellow at the University of Reading, UK, from 2006-2008. Dr Lu is also the Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Architecture at the same university, which comprises of Departments of Architecture, Real Estate and Construction, and Urban Planning, Divisions of Landscape Architecture, and Architectural Conservation. He is an Editor of the International Journal of Construction Management and the Vice President of the Chinese Research Institute of Construction Management (CRIOCM).
At HKU, he teaches construction management and leads studios to examine digital technologies and innovations in the built environment. His research interest is construction waste with a focus on its the managerial, economical, and technological aspects. He examines and advises the effectiveness of the construction waste disposal charging scheme in Hong Kong. He is also interested in the transferability of Hong Kong’s eminent waste management experience to Mainland China, an emerging economy that is facing with serious detritus issues. His recent research interest is using big data in construction waste management, e.g., to revisit previous research, and to identify illegal dumping.
