Alexandre R. Cabral, P.Eng, received his B.Eng. from PUC-Rio, in 1981; his M.A.Sc from École Polytechnique de Montréal, in 1988; and his Ph.D. from McGill University, in 1992.
In 1994 he started his academic career at Université de Sherbrooke, Quebec, where he has been teaching Soil Mechanics, Environmental Geotechnics, and Environmental Management and Sustainability. He also teaches a course entitled Writing and Publishing a Scientific Paper for doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows.
His main research interests are methane oxidation biosystems for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, unsaturated flow through porous media (more specifically cover systems with capillary barrier effect, and lysimetry), and classical geotechnical issues, such as soil compaction. He is leading research projects in all these areas.
He co-authored papers with researchers and industrial partners from Canada, Europe, United States, Australia, and Brazil. His papers have been published in journals in the Geotechnical, Environmental engineering and Scientific domains.
Professor Cabral was associate vice-president of the Canadian Geotechnical Society in the early 2000s. He is presently member of the of the Scientific Advisory Panel of the International Waste Working Group (IWWG). He has acted as consultant for several companies in Canada, Europe and South America.
