PhD at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Post- doctorate at the University of Osnabrück (2001) and at the University of São Paulo (2006) where also obtained the title of Free Lecturer. Guest researcher in 2019 at Edinburgh Napier University. Full professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Leader of the Study Group on Waste Treatment and Unsaturated Soils at UFRJ. Since 1995, he has had projects with Germany financed by the Volkswagen Foundation, German Academic Exchange Service and Ministries of Environment and Education, with the Technical Universities of Braunschweig, Dresden and the University of Osnabrück. He supervised 77 master’s dissertations, 38 doctoral theses and 9 postdoctoral supervisions. Participated as coordinator in Brazil of a project financed by the European Community (RISKCYCLE). He was a guest researcher in 2019 at Edinburgh Napier University. President of the Technical Risk Committee (Brazilian Society of Soil Mechanics 2019/2020) and representative member of the ISSMGE (International Society Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering) of Scour and Erosion Committee (TC213). Now president of the Brazilian Association of Soil Mechanics in the State Rio de Janeiro. He has experience in the field of Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on Unsaturated Soils, Environmental Geotechnics, acting mainly on the following themes: solid waste, unsaturated soils, contaminated soils, contaminant flow, soil treatment and recovery, landfills. solid waste, energy use of solid waste and biomass. He is a member of the scientific board of the International Symposium on Landfill Management and Waste Technology (Sardinia, Italy). He has been a Scientist of Rio de Janeiro State since 2009 and a researcher at Brazilian National Council of Research since 1995. He has 92 articles published in national and international journals, 12 published books, 39 book chapters and more than 300 articles published in national and international congresses.
